Agency Description:

What To Look For in Your Travel Nurse Agency

Nurse Journal reports that the estimated job outlook for travel nurses is expected to grow 19 percent by 2022. Travel nurses have chances to earn more than an average registered nurse. That earning capability increases with extra training and higher degrees. There are plenty of travel nurse agencies, but finding the right fit for your skills and needs can take time.

How can you evaluate a nursing agency to see if it is right for you? You’ll want to check out the benefits, pay scale and support that is provided by the agency, but you should also consider other factors, such as where you want to work, what kind of work you want to do and how long you want to be in an area. Look at some of these factors when determining an agency.

Who is your recruiter?

Recruiters manage your assignments and help you make arrangements, such as housing, contracts and travel. You want to have a good relationship with the recruiter or agent, because recruiters are your advocates and partners in the field. You should be able to ask questions and explain your preferences to let your recruiter find the right assignments for your career goals.

Does the agency have certifications?

The gold standard for agency accreditation is The Joint Commission Certification for Health Care Staffing. Look for a third-party accreditation of the agency to ensure that it meets healthcare quality standards. Accreditations are usually re-evaluated every few years. Agencies that earn and keep their certification have a good success rate.

Are colleagues happy?

Read the company’s testimonials on its website and social media. Check out accounts of other nurses such as Onward Healthcare Travel nursing reviews at Wandering Nurses. These ratings and reviews can tell you a lot about the staff and company benefits.

What are the comprehensive benefits?

Compensation for a job is just one of the things to consider when working for a travel nurse agency. The best agencies offer the same types of benefits you’d find if you worked for a hospital, such as the following:

  • Medical and dental insurance
  • Paid travel expenses
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Housing
  • Retirement
  • Licensing fees if working in another state

Onward Health has had so many choices available for nurses to choose from. I have had such an enjoyable time working with the company. I have been able to see such wonderful areas, beautiful Redwoods, snow covered mountains, and wonderful beaches. I am in hopes of going to Hawaii next.
